When I first created this page back around 1996, it was the only L'Engle fan page out there. Now there's several, better than mine, as well as an official webpage. In consequence, I've stopped updating this page.

Madeleine L'Engle is the author of many novels for children and adults. She has also written several autobiographical and teleological books. She was born in New York City and has lived much of her adult life in New York and New England, but some of her family roots are in the Southeastern U.S.
Remains incomplete, but is now long enough for its own page.
One of the recurring themes in L'Engle's fiction is the interconnectedness of all things. The books themselves reflect this idea; nearly all her fiction books can be linked.
These are some of the characters and what books they appear in. Note that some of this information might be considered spoilers by some folks who haven't read all the novels. (A chart of characters appears in Many Waters. Much of the following material is drawn from this chart.)

Some of Madeleine L'Engle's books are really easy to track down; for example, any public library or general bookstore in the United States should have a copy of Wrinkle in Time; you can also order her in-print books here.
Others, like Ilsa, are nearly impossible to find, though I've heard from a couple folks who did find Ilsa on inter-library loan. If you just want to read a particular hard-to-find book and don't care about owning a copy, check with your local public library (or a university library, if there's one near you that gives borrowing privileges to non-students) and see whether they can get it for you on Inter-Library Loan. If you want to buy a book, try Bookfinder, my personal favorite site for used book searches.
I'm told that some of Madeleine L'Engle's books are available on tape through the Listening Library.
